MayI know most of fandom is busy freaking out over Mary and Chizuru (don’t worry me too), but can we take a moment to discuss the implications of what happened with Shun this episode?
I’ve always enjoyed the fluffy, no-harm-done atmosphere that Kimi to Boku gives off. It’s not an innovative series, not even close. But this episode had me in downright disbelief. The reaction Shun had to being confessed to was not at all what I expected.
See the facial expressions above? He doesn’t look happy or even guilty, since the feeling isn’t mutual. To me, that is not the face of someone who was confessed to for the first time. This is where I’ll lose people, but to me that is the face of someone who is struggling to confront something he’s never had/wanted to before and understand himself, or rather his sexuality. He honestly looks flat-out miserable, like his dog died or something.
I mean, we all know Shun is painfully nice. Maybe I’m seeing things that aren’t there and Shun just feels really bad that he can’t reciprocate her feelings. But we’ve never seen Shun become like this (not that I can recall?).
Maybe this is wishful thinking, but Shun being canonically gay is something that I would love to see. Especially if they could show his friends accepting him - we know they would and their group dynamic would continue as usual. Just as it should.
A anime/manga with a canonically gay character where his homosexuality isn’t the total focus of it? I say hell yes.

It’s not even just about my otp(although it’d be a lie if I said that didn’t matter) but having a canon gay character and still focusing on their friendship would be nice. It says that friendship doesn’t discriminate and that it’s normal. It’s normal to like someone of the same sex while still having friends that are straight(or what have you). It’s normal to be unsure of what you like and to learn about it one step at a time. Because I think that’s part of growing up too and it would be pretty cool if we’d see something that isn’t normally touched by shounen series.
^ This is everything I wanted to say in response to OP’s post but then when I tried to type mine up this morning I just couldn’t phrase it in a way so that it didn’t sound like I was obviously trying to defend my otp so — bless everything from top to bottom in this post.

The summaries included on other websites key us in on the localization of the names: Shion and Rat, which I’m more than happy with, considering that they wouldn’t use ‘Nezumi’ in the dub.
Not that I was going to buy these DVDs anyways given that I already own the original ones, but even if I’d been stuck at home, I still would’ve forked over for the original DVDs and kept my fansubs around.
Interested in seeing how they map ‘rat’ (one syllable) to Shion’s mouth flapping ‘Nezumi’ (three syllables). Where ‘interested’ means ‘not interested at all and eternally eye-rolling’. Not enough tables to flip in the world, man.
